QUANTUM KHOR

Lean Body Mass Calculator

Uses the Boer (1984) formula, validated specifically for women, to estimate how much of your weight is lean mass versus fat mass.

What is lean body mass?

Lean body mass (LBM) is everything in your body that isn't fat — muscle, bone, organs, connective tissue and water. Subtracting your estimated fat mass from your total weight, or equivalently calculating LBM directly, lets you see your fat mass and body fat percentage without needing calipers or a scan.

Why use a female-specific formula instead of FFMI?

FFMI uses a single, unisex height-normalization that was derived mostly from data on men. The Boer formula instead has separate coefficient sets validated against reference methods for men and for women, so the women's version used here is built from, and intended for, female physiology rather than adjusted from a male baseline.

How accurate is this calculator?

The Boer formula compares reasonably well with DEXA and hydrostatic weighing in validation studies, but like any bedside formula it's a population-level estimate, not a personal measurement. It can drift at unusually low or high weights or heights. A DEXA scan or bioimpedance device will be more precise for any one individual.
